I was going to defend this game, but you're right. It's pointless, though not for the reasons you state. It doesn't appeal to everyone, and that's just how it is. I will say this though, don't try to marginalize my opinion by saying this game is nothing but hype for gullible people to buy into. Especially when you have the gall to then, ironically, call the game pretentious.

You people seem to be arguing over pointless distinctions over "casual" and "hardcore" gamers. Consider this: just as an illustration, what if we were to use the same labels with movies? An example of a "hardcore movie" would be "The Matrix." An example of a "casual movie" would be "Finding Nemo." Into which category would you put a movie like "Crash" or "Magnolia"?

Heavy Rain can't really be pige...

If you want to be taken seriously as a journalist, act like one. Please, for the sake of the entire video game industry, act like a professional. Not to sound like a prude, but stuff like this undermines the image of video games to the general public, and stifles its growth into a more mature medium.

...the graphics are an integral part of the experience. The characters need to be as realistic and expressive as possible in order for the player to be able to empathize with them to the degree required for this game. If they were more "cartoonish" we could still empathize with them somewhat, but it would not have near the same impact. They would seem more like toys to play with than people to care about.

I get how Move works, but I think that "prompted gesture" based gameplay would be best for the game. 1:1 movement controls would make it unclear what you need to do and, more importantly, make for really ugly animation. I also think the dramatic camera angles would make 1:1 controls difficult. I think the professional animation should be kept, but use the immersion and intuitiveness of the Move controller by just prompting for gestures. Let the player keep control of the speed o...

i had heard that David Cage WANTED to make it use the motion controller, but not that anything had actually been done to that end, so that is good to hear. Hopefully they can just finish work they already started rather than having to start new.

I can't wait either. I almost have the platinum trophy, so I will finish that, but i will definitely play through again if and when this happens. Maybe i can even get my wife to play it. Scratch that, she actually said she couldn't ...

Heavy Rain would do well on a Natal like interface, but not directly gesture controlled. It would make for really ugly animation. It would also make it difficult to know what you should do. Using prompts is best, but mimicking gestures that are prompted would work well.

Also, a clarification: most of Heavy Rain uses context sensitive controls rather than QTE's. The QTE's were only during the action sequences, and were done better than any other game I've played.

It sounds like Rare is building the software for the Natal dev kit, so they will need to make sure there is the right stuff there to make it as easy as possible for other developers. Pre-packaged skeletal mapping is obvious, but if they can include things like pre-made gesture recognition - so developers can just tell the system to watch for an arm wave, for example - or the ability to reduce processor load by only "watching" the arms, or head, etc. would be very valuable. Come to...

It would just have you more closely mimic the action you want the character to perform, adding a lot to immersion.

They basically have to redesign the gameplay mechanics for every single action. The whole game is "context sensitive" controls. Just imagine, though, instead of pushing up and turning clockwise a quarter turn to unlock a door, you reach forward and turn your hand. It sounds minor, but it would add SO much to the game.

...play through it once now to get the story (and to reduce the chances of the story getting spoiled for you), then play it for the other endings once Move support happens. I have almost got my platinum on this game, and I'll say that all the different possibilities for the ending will have you wanting to play through the game several times.

Given the unreliability of video games journalism, I won't fully believe this until i read it on the playstation blog, but this would be absolutely great. I think a lot of people would love this game, but are put off by the "Find the X button, QUICK!" gameplay, and Move support would make the game much more accessible to them. Not to mention it would make the game even more immersing.

You say "Sorry, but linear games like 99% of PS3 exclusives are totally last gen stuff." Then you say "the only title i have really played much for years now on my PS3 is FF13, which is a real game." Those two sentences don't really gel.

A look at metacritic shows the same results as this one from Famitsu: XBox 360 has more high rated games, PS3 has a higher percentage of high rated games. There was an article somewhere about it a while back, but i don't have time to look for it.

Ultimately, since few of us buy ALL the top rated games, and few of us buy games by randomly picking stuff off the shelf, none of it really matters much, just buy the system that has the games you like.

PS3 (Highest % of high rated games): "I can p*ss the highest."
XBox 360 (highest # of high rated games): "Yeah, well I can p*ss the furthest."
Wii: "Yeah, well I've been p*ssing all over the place. Some of it must be doing something."

Of course, the "*" represents the letter "a". ;)

Lack of co-op, and sluggish controls.

I think the frequency of those complaints almost guarantees co-op in #3 and, while i really liked the slower, more deliberate pace of Killzone 2, the controls could use just a little tweaking. A lot of those control criticisms, though, were based off the release state, which was quickly patched, but hurt the game's image. I think if the reviews and launch had had the patched controls, that complaint wouldn't be nearly so common.

The hit to the processor would kill the graphics and/or physics, A.I., etc., so Natal will be used in isolated, mini-game type situations. Natal will do some really neat things, but not core gameplay of games like Fable. Imagine, though, something like a lock-picking mini-game using Natal. Thinks like that will add to the experience in cool ways.

THX recommendations are that the viewing distanc9e should be about 1.5 times the diagonal screen size for HDTV's, eg. for a 40" TV you should sit about 60" (5 ft) away. A 4m viewing distance would be for a 118" TV.

@ Clap your hands: I think that quote refers to the maximum area that Natal covers, it doesn't say it's a minimum. You just have to be somewhere in that area for Natal to see you.

I actually almost said that explicitly, then decided it wouldn't be necessary. Maybe I should have.
